Bloomsburg Fair (A.K.A. the great Bloomsburg Food Orgy)

Once a year we make the trek to the Bloomsburg Fair with my mother-in law, with food in mind. I feel like I should fast for the week leading up to this massive food orgy, but; that never actually happens. This one day a year all bets are off! We eat whatever calls us. We have gotten smart and the hubby and I share everything so there is more room for tasting.

Our first stop this year was the adorable Grilled Cheese Café.

We chose bacon, egg and cheese on french toast. They had some catchy name for this deliciousness, but quite honestly I have forgotten it. The sweet french toast and the smoky bacon really made the perfect match!

Next up was this scrumptious fried pie. Half apple and half pumpkin! The best tastes of fall all wrapped up in one. I do not remember seeing a name on this stand, unfortunately. Best thing about this little white food stand? When I asked what they fry in (unfortunately, can not ignore the peanut allergy even for this one day), they told us good old-fashioned shortening! It is the only way to fry we are told!

Next up is this thick hearty Pennsylvania Dutch style chicken and dumpling soup. The dumplings were little air pockets of awesome! Perfect amount of pepper as well.

Moving on, four of us shared and were completely satisfied with these crispy cactus fries. They use the coolest drill looking apparatus to cut them!

Vince’s cheese steaks is at the orgy….I mean fair, every year. Every year we stand in their long line because these cheese steaks are well worth any wait. One plain and one with the works. I refrained this year, but my mother-in-law, husband and his aunt thoroughly enjoyed them.

How perfect is that name? I just love it! Almost as much as I love their fried pickles! Perfect amount of batter to balance the saltiness of the dill pickles.

For those of you with a sweet tooth, there are more than enough to choose from. Check out the taffy pulling and these adorable candied apples. These are just a couple of examples of the sweetness available.

Some blueberry muffins went home with the mother-in-law. Aren’t they beautiful?

We can never leave the fair without a gallon of Benton’s apple cider. This stuff is the real deal and he is mashing the apples right there in front of us.

The new find this year was this Shagbark Hickory Syrup. I may never go back to maple syrup again. This has a woodsy flavor I have fallen in love with.

Every fall we spend a day at the fair. It is a tradition we look forward to months in advance. If you are local or visiting the area while the fair is going on it is a marvelous way to spend a day. Of course the fair also has more to offer than just food. They have livestock, agricultural exhibits, rides and games; as you would expect from a country fair.

If you would like to do a little more research on the fair, the website is: http://www.bloomsburgfair.com/

I hope that you will enjoy it as much as we always do!
